    Longest Eclipse?

       How long was the longest solar eclipse ever recorded?

    Hi Kevin,

    The longest that totality can last is 7 minutes and 40 seconds, which is the time that the moon takes to pass across the face of the Sun when they are perfectly aligned. I don't know how long is the longest one recorded, but the longest one predicted in since 3000BC will take place on July 16 2186 and will last 7 minutes and 29 seconds.
