    Ladies this is probably a first for solar week, never had this asked, nor seen it,

    Do any of the scientists skateboard or have?

    Sorry, not me! But several of my undergraduate students do, and even a couple of my postgraduate students as well. So it is a popular hobby for physicists and also useful for getting to and from class (Maybe they like to relate their skateboarding to physics ideas like energy, momentum, friction...) Although I did go on a skateboard once as part of a physics experiment. We had to measure the acceleration of gravity and this involved a skateboard with a rope tied to it and a big weight dropped down the stairwell. You stood on the skateboard and when the weight is let go you accelerate along the corridor and by timing the acceleration using light gates/stop clocks you can work out the acceleration of gravity. It was a neat experiment, but maybe a bit dangerous! Our physics teacher was slightly crazy. Lyndsay

    Hi Eric,

    I tried to skateboard when I was in middle school but I just couldn't seem to get the hang of it on the hills. But my husband, who is a scientist, was an avid skateboarder and we still have his skateboard in our house. I think skateboarding is great and there is a lot of physics involved! :)
